Parts of the Ear and Pathway

  1. Pinna - captures/collects soundwaves, like a funnel
  2. Auditory canal - tube
  3. Eardrum - vibrates and passes vibrations
  4. Ossicles - 3 tiny bones that vibrate 
  5. Oval window - opening from the middle ear to the cochlea
  6. Cochlea - tiny hairs inside that sense the vibrations, sends electrical signal to brain, receptors here
  7. Auditory Nerve - connected to brain, sends message
  8. Brain - receives message, detects electrical signal, sound detected 

Not mentioned:

  • Semi-circular canal - contains fluid that helps keep balance
  • Eustachian tube - connected to mouth and nose
